Teacher, Thought Leader, and Author of Tribal Leadership:
I first heard about John King and Tribal Leadership at a conference. Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos and the bestselling author of Delivering Happiness, presented with John. I was a huge fan of Zappos and was impressed by how Tony held John is such high esteem.
When Tony said that John showed their leaders how to build resilient organizations by showing them how to assess, identify, and upgrade their tribes’ cultures, one stage at a time … I had to know more. So, I bought the book and nearly finished it on the plane ride home.
The premise is simple in theory: every organization is composed of tribes–naturally occurring groups of 20-150 people. However, few organizations have a repeatable roadmap for leveraging natural groups to build thriving and resilient leaders and organizations.

This is Part II of my interview with John. In Part I, John discusses his early experience as a professional dancer. He pivoted his career into a successful career as a writer of TV and film scripts. His life experiences, talent, and natural curiosity led him to facilitate and coach for Landmark Education followed by 13 years teaching at the graduate level at the University of Southern California.
